This book deals with Johnson's verse. Dr. Johnson was the last great Augustan poet about whom Arthur Murphy, his friend and biographer, thought that had be devoted more attention to poetry, he would have been the rival of Pope. Johnson as poet became an object of admiration in the first half of the twentieth century. Here readers will find an exhaustive study of his poetry. The book was written between late 60s or early 70s and now it is in public domain.

Prof. Gurudas Mukherjee was an outstanding student, a brilliant researcher, a sound grammarian, a noted bi-lingual poet and above all a legendary classroom teacher of Patna University.

Dr. Indibar Mukherjee, a Senior University Professor (retired) in the postgraduate Department of Patna University, has done pioneering research work on Doris Lessing and has been actively associated with English Literature after 1950s.
